Can I-693 be sent in at a later date?

I am about to submit my I-485 and I-130 for myself & my son (Husband is USC) and we only have put aside enough money for those 2 applications. We forgot about the medical exams as things have been very stressful here so a million things are going on.

My son & I are on a paroled status until the 31st Dec 08 and we are really worried we are running out of time and if we wait till we have the money for the medical exams then it might be too late and I will be in trouble.

Is there anyway to send in the I-693 later or can I extend my current status to give us more time?

Thanks

Nikki

Most health insurance plans cover the immigration physical as well. That way you don't have to spend money to get the medical exam done. I am not sure if USCIS will accept your application without the I-693.

The situation is that I was advised poorly that my son & I could enter the US on the Waiver program then we would apply for residency when we were here, as my husbands grandfather has been quite ill and we didn't know how much time we would have.

When we got to the point of entry they asked me all sorts of questions and pretty much figured out I was coming here to live and was on the wrong visa.

They allowed us in on a "Paroled" status for Humanitarian reasons with an expiry date of 12/31/08. We have been in the process of getting my husband a job and getting the funds together for the applications.

Does anyone know if there is anyway I can extend this expiry date? Do I have to submit the application at a certain time before the expiry date? If we don't do it in time will my son & I be deported?

It depends with the insurance co. Mine was rejected. I know someone else who had hers rejected, too.

I think they will reject your application and send it back to you.

I have never seen the USCIS reject an I-485 that was filed without the I-693. They just accept the application and later send a Request for Evidence (RFE). Part of the RFE will ask you to complete a medical examination and send in the Form I-693.

can you file for AOS based on entering as a parole?

I think you were allowed to enter to see the dying grandad not to file for your GC.

It states on my stamp and on the paperwork that the parole was so I can file AOS. And the dying grandfather didn't come into it.

Also the officer told me to file my paperwork.

Can't you borrow $250 from relatives to cover the expense? Once you get the paperwork filed you'll be able to get an EAD and work, and easily pay the money back.

It would me more than that wouldn't it for me & my son. I've been told its about $200 or more each person. And we have already asked our family for so much already that we can't really ask them for anymore.

You can file without the I-693, but they will send you an RFE requesting the medical document within the first few months, and you have to respond to it within 90 days from the notice date.

See thats what I wanted to know. Because we can get it done in a month or so but thats cutting it way too close to my expiry date.

Does anyone know what happens if I stay past the expiry date without getting the AOS in before?

You would fall out of status, which MAY lead to deportation proceedings. However, many people have fallen out of status and have been living in the Country for many years, illegally.
Personally I would file before the expiration date and try to scrape the money required to get your medical done. Shop around for a good doctor, some charge more than others and mine only charged $ 150.00 for it. Still expensive, but less than most other ones I heard of..

I thought you had to go to the specified ones on the USCIS website? The ones I called told me it ranges from $200 - $500 depending on what we need.

Can you use any doctor?

You have to go to the ones posted on the USCIS website, not any doctor, but each of them will charge you differently.
Where are you from? I'm from Chicago and the one I went to only charges $ 150.00, but here there were many doctors to choose from.

I am in North Carolina and not near a major city so all of them are quite far away. Our closest ones are all the same company, Concentra Medical Centers.

Go get all your vaccines from a govt place (medical center? not sure of the name). They're cheaper, then go to the recommended USCIS ones with the results, they will do the rest of the TB and stuff, it will be cheaper. I paid 480! but would have been smarter. I also don't have a choice when it comes to USCIS services, I am far from any. I would have gone to the sch health center to get vaccinated before going to the USCIS one, I just didn't figure. I got all the recommended vaccines because I don't have records of any - so my bill was this high. Whatever it takes, just get your papers in b4 your exp. date.
