Can F1 change directly to H1 without OPT?

Hi,

I wonder if there is any members here has the experience where change the status from student (F1) to H1( get hired) without having to use the OPT?

I have been told that it is not possible to do that?

You can change to h1 even half of your studies, if you have foreign BS degree, ( without completing your course in US). OPT is just optional and not part of your course at all.
