Can F-1 travel to U.S vergin island during AOS?

It seems I can't get AP to go to St. Maartin right after Christmas for our honeymoon. We may change plan to go to U.S vergin island?
Your kind suggestions will be highly appreciated! :)
 
If he's filed AOS his F-1 visa has expired. However I believe you can visit the US Virgin islands from the USA without a passport as its US territory (like Puerto Rico), so it shouldn't be an issue.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe you still have to pass through USCBP when returning to the mainland from US possessions. Without AP, you may be abandoning your AOS case. Proceed with caution.
