Can Do Part-Time Work

Hi,

A cousin is here on a TN-1 visa - there are no restrictions on her SSN - the card is open implying she can work anywhere. But i believe this would violate the terms of her stay. Can she work without another TN-1 visa/status?

She certainly will pay taxes and the income will be reported to IRS. How will USCIS get to know she has violated the terms of her status/visa? At what point will USCIS get to know this - anytime she is returning from Canada to the US? What if she does not intend to apply for a green card now, and just needs a part-time job for about 3 months to just get her through some humps?

i will appreciate your help - MN

The card can imply whatever it wants, either no restrictions, or "not valid for employment". Neither is relevant; all that matters is what work authorization is granted by USCIS.

Your cousin can only work for her TN employer.

IRS does communicate with USCIS. At some point USCIS and CBP will know she's been getting earned income from the second employer, and they'll ask "where is your work authorization"?
