Hi,
I am in the process applying for my green card through spouse. I was in a shoplifting incident in about 2007. I went to court and was fined $200. Will this affect my green card application? Will I need to get a certificate of disposition from the court?

You will need the final court disposition.

If this is the only incident, it will not, by itself prevent approval.

Shoplifting can get you deported, depending on the specific details of the case and the laws the state where it was committed. Don't rely solely on an anonymous message board for something so potentially serious.

Thanks Jackolantern. Since then I have renewed my US visa and got another ten years and i have traveled to the US every year since without any problems. Does this say it isn't as bad?

Only felony effects your immigration status. you must go in court get disposition get 2 of them and make few copies cause you going to need them . Depending in which state you are . Better tallk to immigration layer, cause you will have big problem on entry ,Many of them got stock in point of entry with GC and was not alowed to entry USA . Yes it happen many times . Dont let ICE nock in your door in the morning.Than is goiong to cost alot of money for good attorney.
Good luck stay coole and hope nothing bad , just be prepared in case.

Please cite to some law to support this contention. What section of the INA or 8 CFR are you relying on, or is there some caselaw to support this assertion?
