Came to US on K1 and married USC before first preference IV petition approved

I came here to the US on a fiance` K1 visa and got married April 2004. My mother is a USC and has previously applied for an immigrant visa petition for me and my brother. The said petition was under first preference: unmarried children of USC 21 years above and was approved January 2005. I thought it would take too long for the petition to be approved I could have waited for its approval instead of coming here on a fiance` visa. I already filed AOS under my K1 and was wondering if I could make use of my immigrant visa rather than go through the lengthy conditional residency. I married my husband in good faith but it's hard to foretell the future, what if something happens to my marriage and would be having problems with my residency application.

I don't know what to do right now I hope somebody could give me advice. It would be a lot more secure if I can file for residency using that immigrant petition. Does my mother need to send the USCIS a letter stating that I got married so they could change the preference?
