Call customer center to schedule FP or wait for the letter from USCIS?

I got my 485 receipt yesterday. It was issued before Oct. 1. On the receipt, it tell me to call USCIS customer center to schedule an appointment for the biometrics. But I have an impression that you need to wait for the letter from USCIS, then bring the letter to do the FP. Before you get the letter, you should do nothing.
So I wonder if there is a change of policy, or what is the reason for it? What should I do? Anyone have similar experience?

I guess you are in the wrong Forum. You should visit the "Fingerprinting Issues (Mostly I-485 related)" forum under I-485 Issues. There you would find a posting by username "josie", who described the same situation as you have.
 
I don't understand why you are trying to analyze the notice and figure out whether it's OK or not OK. Just do what they asking you in the notice. Call CIS center and make appointment for biometric. Daaaaa
