Guess I can't count on retiring in Canada with the cheap US $.......

It would be interesting to see how this will impact the volume of TN applicants, as it's pretty much a wash with the lower tax rates in the US.

This will hardly have any impact on TN applicants - in fact Canada is becoming more expensive with rising CD$$.

Yes, if things were getting cheaper in canada there might be an impact, but your US salary (still higher) and the US taxes (still lower) more than make up for the currency rate.

I will agree that the prospect of moving back to Canada has become less attractive though.

How so? The American cars over there are getting cheaper, hallmark greeting cards (the ones have US$2.99, CAD$3.99 printed on the back) sold in Walmart now are just CAD$2.99.......

I am saying so because low price of US$ is not (yet) reflected in the cdn market. (That's why I said Canada is becoming more expensive). This is as per the news on cbc.ca a couple of weeks ago. The (cards and) books are still sold 1.5 times the value of USD -- that's what the news said. The news further mentioned that Wal Mart expressed the desire to lower the prices, but I do not know if they really did it.

TN volume will have no impact - see Nelson's post above for the reason!

In fact, TNers coming down can now leverage there US employer to giving them a slightly higher US salary, by saying "Hey, I'm making $100,000 in canada, you need to give me at least $110,000, now"

Before, US employers realized that anything they paid Cdns was better than what they had.

TNs mignt even increase, just like fewer Cdn will return to canada.
