Buying Property in India without OCI (Is it possible?)

Hello everyone,

I recently became a US citizen and have not applied for OCI. I have inherited some property in India.

I will be traveling to India in April and wanted to register the property in my name.

Is it possible to do so? I was told by a family friend recently that buying property till OCI is not an option since I need a PAN card.

I live in California and the current processing time in CKGS San Francisco is 60 days + 10 days for matchup. This timing will not work for my April visit.

I already have India tourist visa.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?

When your OCI is approved? Do they return back your cancelled INDIAN passport? or the consul will retian it.

Thanks
