Indians are probably better off at this time with a Republican President because democrats have a close realtionship with unions and would probably pass harsh legislation if they were pushed.
 
One who issued a bill for scrapping h1's is also a replubician and it is likely that Bush will support him. India is always better off with Democrats...
 
Folks - the immigration issue is not as clear cut amongst democrats and republicans as , say, tax cuts. One has to take is on a case by case basis. The Clinton administration was favorable to qualified legal immigrants in the midst of an unprecedented economic boom. However, that does not mean that it is a general democratic policy. That policy is easily overturned if the unions are against it. Some democrats are actually more favorable towards illegal immigrants than legal ones !!! Go figure. Republicans are divided and policies are dependent on constituents. I can guarantee you that any public office holder from New Jersey has to have some kind of pro-immigrant stance. However, rednecks like Tancredo can avoid it and actually increase in popularity if they have a largely blue-collar constituency. In the same note - senators from West Virginia, democrat or republican , are very unlikely to support any pro-immigration bill. It is about politics - not principles :D :D :D
 
No politicians really care about immigrants except their own political career. If they feel beneficial to their political interest, they will support immigrants. But from my opinion, Bush administration has really hooked up the immigration process. Remember what Bush promised to reduce the processing time to 6 month? Now Bush has no time to think about this one of his many promises instead of his terrorist war and the coming re-election.
