Here's how I remember it when I watched it last night. The question was "What are your Immigration plan ?".

Bush - Issue temporary working visas to minimize illegal aliens.

Kerry- Prioritize cases of legal Aliens who have been waiting for years and paying taxes here in US and/or have US citizen child, and stronger border control.

Well, if we can vote and looking at the above answer, we know which is better. Unfortunately, we cannot vote yet.

That is not my recollection of the debate. I remember Kerry saying that we should legalize the stay of "illegal" aliens who are in the US for long, who are paying taxes, and whose children are US citizens.

OK,here's the actual transcript that Kerry said,

"And thirdly, we need an earned-legalization program for people who have been here for a long time, stayed out of trouble, got a job, paid their taxes, and their kids are American. We got to start moving them toward full citizenship, out of the shadows."

Yes you are right, that was indeed Kerry's response, but please read it in context to the question that was asked by Schieffer, which was:

QUOTE
I‘m told that at least 8,000 people cross our borders illegally every day. Some people believe this is a security issue, as you know. Some believe it‘s an economic issue. Some see it as a human-rights issue.
How do you see it? And what do we need to do about it?

I still believe he was talking about illegal aliens :)

I agree, Kerry meant "legalize" illegal alien who have been here long. None of them care about legal immigrants, if that's what we are talking about here.

Well, I don't really care about the semantics of Kerry's sentences if he's referring to legal or illegal aliens. My point is who has the better plan for us immigrants here in the US.

In my unbiased view and personal opinion ( I am no democrat or republican), Kerry makes more sense than Bush. But we all have different opinions and I respect that.

Bush was the only one who even "mentioned" the legal immigrants, but at least he realizes that we've been waiting for a while:

QUOTE
I don't think we ought to reward illegal behavior. There are plenty of people standing in line to become a citizen. And we ought not to crowd these people ahead of them in line.
If they want to become a citizen, they can stand in line, too.

since we have been in us, it looks better for us from Kerry's talk.
anyhow they just wanted to get more vote, especially Bush wants get more
from Mexico's citizem. BUT after voting, likely they will not care us anymore....

What Bush says is different from what he does. We all know that the backlog in immigration is one of the worst right now under his rule. I believe prior to his rule, the backlog was not that bad but in fairness there is the 911 incident as an excuse.

As he says, "He can run but he cannot hide". :D

My view

Whoever wins the election, immigration will come down (not application processing) a lot. There is a severe anti-immigration sentiment going on in the country. Whoever crosses that I-485 approval line will be lucky.

This will speed up outsourcing and offshoring, Indian and American companies (operating in India) will prosper.
