Buffalo NY N-400 Timeline

From the little I know - on average any where from 5- 9 months. My process took 9 months from beginning to end - even though I applied during the backlog fiasco and didn't get my NOA or FP notice until December. I applied in August 2007.

Update on my case.

N400 Buffalo Interview

Hi Folks:

Sharing my Naturalization Interview experience.

I had my interview on 12 Nov, I got in at 9:25am for my interview at 9:40am. After checking at the counter, i was asked to wait for my name to be called. Around 09:50am IO officer came and announced my name, he walked me to his room, where he asked me raise my Right hand to take an oath. He then handed me a paper and asked me to verify if my Name and address was right, then asked me to read line printed on one paper, and write a simple sentence. After putting my initials i handed the paper to him, to which he said you passed verbal/written part. The he started asking me Civic questions, after 6 questions, he said you need just 6 to pass and you got all right.
After Civic questions, he said, i should have asked in the beginning, if you want New Exam or Old Exam, but anyways you got all your civic questions, i wouldn't worry. Then he went over my application, asking about my recent trips abroad, i told him i have few more Canada trips since i filed my application. but he didn't show too much interest, I think he was looking for long trips abroad. Then he verified my current address, and confirming who all is in my family and stays with me. Asked about my children Birth days and places where they were born. Then he confirmed my Employer, went over Yes/No question about affiliation to any organization, convicted ... (all from N400 application). The he asked me about my spouse, is she Naturalized, and i thought of this to be right moment to ask my concern, as to why we have not received any update on her case, to which he said he would try his best to get whatever information he could for the delay, and indeed he was very helpful to find all details.

Then he handed me N-652 (Naturalization Interview Results), which said "Passed" and "Congratulations". For oath he said, it happens once a month, and he is not sure if its going to be in Dec'08 or Jan'09. He said, just lookout for that in mail, because he doesn't have that information now. And then he handed me back by GC and asked me to hold on to it for few more days.

Yes - do keep an eye out for the oath letter as it will be mailed in a simple envelope; not nearly as official looking as the other correspondence from USCIS. Also you can fill out the oath letter questionnaire prior to the oath date, but do not sign and date the letter until the day of the oath.

Congrats on passing your interview.

Interview passed in Buffalo

Hubs had his interview this morning and it went well - he passed and is scheduled for the oath at the District Courthouse in Buffalo on February 5 2009.

Good luck to everybody still waiting !

My interview went well today. The IO asked me 7 questions for the civic test and about 90% of the information on the application (personal info & questions). Due to the name change request, a decision can't be made and name check could take 2-3 months plus re-interview, if needed, she said.

Any other updates on the Buffalo process? I am starting to get worried here, as my fiancee hasn't heard anything in quite a while. We received a CFR Notice at the end of December 2008, and have heard nothing since. Wondering if perhaps something has gotten lost in the mail (we had some mail issues a few weeks back - a couple of other items we were waiting for never came), but wouldn't know how to find out from USCIS if that happened?

Our timeline to date:

N-400 mailed 09/06/08
NOA received 09/11/08
Priority Date 09/08/08
FP Notice rec'd/FPs done within a month of that time
CFR Notice sent 12/24/08
IL - ???
Interview Date - ???

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

The Oath Letter arrived today for a ceremony on 4/9. By calling the local DO, I found out that my case was approved on 3/16, almost a month after the interview delayed by name check. The people answered the calls at the local office were very nice and even let me choose the time of the ceremony because there will be 2 ceremonies on that day in Rochester, NY.

It looks like I am the last one of those who applied in October 2008 to get the oath letter. But, the journey is almost over.

Descheduled Oath

Just to let you know that, I got an oath ceremony letter from the Buffalo FO for 09/14/09, soon after moving from St. Paul, MN (and updating the online AR11) to be desceduled three days later.

Did any one else get a descheduling letter as well ?

Thanks.
