Bringing Wife's Daughter Over to U.S.

My wife received her Permanent Resident Status a couple of months ago. She has a daughter back in Australia (age 16) that's currently living with her biological father and wants to come over here to live with her mother and I.

I've been told that if I file on her behalf as my stepchild (which I believe I would be eligible to do, since she was 12 or 13 when I married her mother), things will go much faster. But when I look at the processing dates for the I-130 on the Nebraska Service Center site, it says they're backlogged all the way back to 2001. Is this correct? Can anyone that's had experience with the Nebraska folks tell me?

Are you a U.S. citizen? For U.S. citizens filing for their children under 21 the processing date is March 28, 2005 for NSC.

So does that mean that that's the soonest we could bring her over here? Six months from whenever we file the I-130?

I am not sure about it. What I think is it takes about 6 month for the NSC to start processing of the case.

Also, a second question (if anyone knows). . .

My wife's daughter currently lives near Brisbane, which is in Queensland. The closest thing that we can find to a consulate for her to go through and interview in Australia after she gets notified that a visa is available is in Sydney, which is about a 16-hour drive by car.

Is there any chance that anyone here can tell me whether or not there would be anywhere closer for her to go through the interview? I wouldn't assume that a lot of Aussies post here, but I'm asking on the off chance that someone here does know.

Looks like there is one in Brisbane. Check it here: http://usembassy.state.gov/, under East Asia and Pacific.
