Where did you get the effective date info?

Where did you get the above information from? from the Chennai US Consulate web site?? can you point me to the correct location...Thanks

this makes PCC issue lot clearer

This would mean that if you are presently in the US and apply for IV visa, PCC from the Indian Consulates in US will be acceptable. You would not need a PCC from the local authorities in India.

RAVI, SUPERMAN AND OTHERS, I GUESS WE ARE WRONG!!

Friends,
I think we are jumping into a wrong conclusion here in assuming that, if we are living in USA now, we need not get a PCC from the local District Police Office and local RPO office in India.

Read my attorney\'s response here:
My case: I already have the PCC from Chicago Consulate, but My wife doesn\'t have one and added to the twist, my wife is in India now and I am expecting FEB interview.

b "In response to your questions:

b (1) Your wife will need to go to the passport office and the
b district police office with responsibility for the place she lives b to get certificates. I do not know what local consulate she would b use. The Indian government only maintains consulates abroad, not
b in India.

b (2) I recommend that you obtain a certificate from the passport
b office and the district police office as well. You are applying
b for an immigrant visa in India, so I do not believe the provision
b for those applying outside the country pertains to you; it probably b is for individuals who are somehow getting their immigrant visa
b applications processed in a third country"

Post in your thoughts and opinions here.
If you read carefully the following message on madras consulate website, you will observe that the wording is " Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record". Notice that it says " FOR VISAS OUTSIDE INDIA", I believe they are talking about Third-Country applicants like the one in Mexico(The name of the consulate is Ciraudden....I guess)

PLease respond

my opinion

If you lived in the US for the last 3+years, the PCC from consulate should be enough.
I got my dad to inquire about getting the local clearance from India.
The Inspector had a valid point- If you dont have a current residence in India, how can he give a clearance? Just because you once lived in that district??

Namelater: Relax - Indian PCC is not required.

Your attorney is putting forth his/her recommendations. Indian PCC is not required (from the consulate as well as from passport office / local police station in India).
Here is an email reply I got from Chennai.
Happy New Year!

Subject: Immigraton visa - police clearance certificate from India

Dear Officer:
I noticed the recent update in the FAQ section of your website that Indian
police clearance certificate is required.
It takes approximately 2 months to get an Indian police clearance
certificate from the embassy. Local police station in India needs physical
presence of the person to verify and issue a police clearance certificate.
It also takes around 2 months.
My IV interview is on 18JAN2002 and I will be flying next week from USA.
Per these constrains, do persons who have their employment based IV
interview in January need to get Indian police clearance certificate?
Thanks much!
Sincerely
Firstname Lastname

PS: I have obtained the Singapore police clearance certificate for my past
stay in Singapore.

Feb. CPers, I still believe that PCC from Consulate is enough. Relax.

Chennai Website is very clear:
If you are from abroad, statement from your nearest consulate confirming that they have no criminal record. People from US do not need local PCC.

namelater, your wife\'s case is different. Since she is in India, She need PCC from RPO as well as District Police office.
