born in USA but lived entire life in Mexico what is my status?

I have a friend who was born in California in 1969. When he was still in diapers, his father left his mother and his mother took him to Mexico to live with her family. Is he still a citizen of the USA and can he come back to the USA legally or is it too late?

He will remain a US Citizen all his life if he was born here. All you have to do is obtain a copy of your birth certificate and a picture ID to enter the country. Once in the country you need to obtain your passport and your ID card and social security card if you don\'t have one. This is all you will ever need.

Your friend should contact the nearest US Embassy for a US passport. They can help him get an original birth certificate.

Unless his parents were official diplomats of a foreign country while they were here, he will be a US citizen.
