Border Visit for TN - COVID Testing/Vaccination Requirements

Hi

Anyone visited border recently to get TN? I am planning to visit Sarnia/Detroit border for getting a TN issued, planning to travel sometime early next week. I will take my daughter along with me to get her TD I94 as well. We both are fully vaccinated

Do we need any COVID testing to enter Canada and then reenter USA at the border?

Do we need to carry proof of vaccination?

I read recently somewhere all the Non-US persons need to show proof of vaccination while entering USA. Not sure if that is applicable for work related travel like TN.

Appreciate if anyone can share their experience/inputs if any

Thanks

You do not need testing to simply go to the border and turn around.

As to vax prrof, why would you not carry vax proof if you have it? You will need it to re-enter US.

Thanks Nelsona! We have Vax proof for both of us, we will carry those to the border.

CDN9 I would appreciate if you could document your TN experience (with regards to vaccination cards, in case they asked for it?) Thanks.

Drove to the Ambassador Bridge POE to get my new TN - I already have one and this is my second one, I took my daughter also with me so that she can get TN with the new validity - although not required.

1) Entered Canadian Border - Officer greeted and asked, "where do you live, and whats the purpose of visit to Canada?". I told her that I just came to apply for a new TN, so, I will just take a U turn and back to USA. Then she said, "Ok, so you are just turning around - do you have any negative COVID testing report, I guess you don't need it as you are just turning around?", I said, I don't have one, but we are fully vaccinated and have proof. Officer didn't say anything, just asked me to go little further and take a left which will take you to US. Thats it

So - On the Canadian side, they didn't ask for Vaccination Proof etc., she just asked about the negative test, since, I am just turning around, she said its fine.

2) Entered US Border - Officer greeted and and asked "where are you heading to?", I said I came to apply for a new TN, then she routed me to office area to see an officer. US side, officers didn't ask for any Vaccination Proof or negative COVID rest reports etc., I went to the office area, they issued the second TN and I came out. No questions about vaccination are asked either at the entry booth or inside the office area.

The only thing is this experience may not be the same with every Port of Entry or each officer. This may change, its better to carry proof of Vaccination specially when you are crossing the borders.

Did you take an appointment at the POE for TN?
What time did you go around and was it busy?

Thanks.
No, I didn’t take any appointment, we need to go on business days between 8 AM and 4 PM

I went there around 9.15 AM and wrapped up everything in half an hour

I think some POEs, we need to take appointment

ok so I just called the border at Niagara 716-843-8521 and they told me that you need to show prof of vaccination as part of the TN application process.

Yes, this is the case since jan 22, and is the main reason truckers got their knickers in a twist. Non-US citizens and GC holders must now have vax proof to enter regardless of the reason.
