.. yes you can, I have seen cases. In my case, my lawyer was very specific about getting it from India. The birth certificate we get from Indian consulate says, DOB is so and so as per your passport, so it not a very good doc.
You have to get it from India, form your place of birth. If your name is not written in the BC (some of the original BCs are) you need to get affidavit from your parents or blood relatives. Talk to your lawyer regarding this. Note that your parent\'s names must be included in your BC.
I used the BC from the Indian consulate and got approved. I beleive if you were born before 1970 or so the consulate BC will be accepted. However I did get certificates from India just in case, but they were not required in my case.
