Birth Certificate without name

Netizens,
My spouse has a "birth certificate" which is piece of paper on which
there is a statement by the presiding doctor that " a baby girl
was born to so and so on --date-- and the midwife is so and so".
There is the stamp of the hospital and the doctors signature.

What other documentation do I need? Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks
Narayan

Narayan:

This is a usual occurence in India - kids are not named until well after birth! My certificate was also similar.

In most cases INS accepts these certificates with affidavits of the following kind (I got by with only the first):
1) Notarized evidence from your wife\'s mother saying that she is her daughter.
2) Notarized evidence from two "elders" claiming the same - essentially saying that they were there during your wife\'s birth. Of course, they need not have been in the ward (who was allowed in there back then!).
3) Some kind of convoluted proof - your wife\'s passport shows her father\'s name, correct? If you show her parents\' wedding certificate (if you have a copy), you can show that she is their daughter and her age matches that of the certificate.

In any case, you should have not problem. Don\'t worry. Hope this helps!

Narayan: I hope you understand that you HAVE to consult a lawyer for the proper advice. These things can be quite tricky sometimes and a good lawyer will tell you exactly what you need to have.

The birth certificate given by hospital authorities will be not be considered as official birth certificate. You have to register at local goverment authorities(municipality or corporation) and get the oficial birth certificate. Infact the birth certificate issued by hospital is invalid even in India too.

I believe the birth certificate handed out by municipal authorities also does not have the child\'s name. I know mine did not. However, you are correct - I don\'t think the hospital\'s certificate will carry any weight. You have to get one from the local registering authorities.

I sailed in the similar boat few months ago.... :-(
My wife\'s Date of Birth was issued from Nursing Home "with our her name on it" ( asusual ).

We send following to my uncle, who is in India
a).copy of birth cerficate from Nursing home
b).Request letter to "Registrar of Birth & Deaths" to issue Date of Birth Certificate

My uncle went to "Registrar of Births & Deaths Office" with these documents. Out come is we received my wife\'s Date of Birth Certificate, but there is no name on it!!!!

So, we wrote another letter to "Registrar of Births & Deaths" with a request to give Birth Certificate with my wife\'s name on it. My uncle again ran behind those people. It worked this time :-). They might need other evidences like marriage certificate copy, X grade/class certificate copy, some affidavit from your mother&father etc.

Hope this will help you.

Hi,

I too had a birth certificate in marathi language just saying baby girl. I had it translated in english in india and then below said that this birth certificate belongs to "my name" daughter of "my parents name" and then notarized. The INS accepted it without problem as I have got my greencard approved. Hope this helps
