Birth Certificate Question

Hi,

I am an indian citizen married to a USC. I am in the process of filing for AOS. I was looking through those forms and it asks for the birth certificate of both USC and the alien(me). The problem is they have not specified my name on my birth certificate(29 years ago, it was not the formal process). Is it important to have my name mentioned on the birth cert? or will it throw in an inquiry?
 
you should get a new one from india with your name on it, its not a big deal .. i had mine taken out in a day from the municipal office in hyderabad.. send somebody you know
 
Oh, the birth certificate that I have right now mentions my mom and dad's name and of course the same is on my passport. So the logic behind my question was that USCIS woul,d look at those two and relate that ti was indeed me:)... but I understand that can be complicated...

Here's what I would suggest:

Send your parents copies of your birth certificate and your current passport. Have them get an affidavit affirming that you are the person to whom the birth certificate belongs. Send a copy of the affidavit to the USCIS.

Here is what I did.

I got a new BC issued and they made it based on my Passport and matriculation certificates at the Muncipality. It was a breeze. Also got the affidavit from parents prior to that.You need a BC for every damn thing here and sometimes their(USCIS) right arm knows not what the left arm does. So, get your parents to write an application for request, fax them your passport and matric certs and voila, you should be able to get the certificate in one day.

However, I do remember the lady tell me that as of 2008 May or something they have been instructed to not issue any past BC certificates any more. If that happens, an affidavit from your parents should be good, but only if that is accompanied by a letter from the SDM stating that they could not find your BC or the name was not printed on it.Hope that helps.

Hi Samboi, which form asks the birth certificate of both USC and the alien(me)? I am reading the instruction for I-485. It only asks the GC applicant's BC.
