Guys, please, help!
On the letter for the interview there is a request to bring your US spouse's birth certificate, the origional one. I have a question. My husband lost his birth certificate, but we got the copies of Certification of birth record. Are we gonna be in trouble, or copy is ok, please, let me know, as I am so nervous about it!
Thank you, everyone!

Hi anna1986,

Copies of Certification of birth record should do good. You should be able to convince the official explaining the situation.Good luck!

At the interview he needs to provide official, non-photocopy proof of his US citizenship. It doesn't have to be his birth certificate; it can be his US passport (or naturalization certificate, if he's a naturalized citizen).

thanks you for your reply! the reason why I ask is because in the letter I received for the interview it says bring your petitioner's birth certificate and his evidence of US citizenship. Well, my husband is us citizen. And I also hope to get the birth ceritiface copy in time, thank you guys, I feel better now!

Does he have a US passport? If yes, you won't need to worry about his birth certificate.

That letter is generic and the details don't necessarily apply to everybody. If he was born outside the US, they wouldn't care about his birth certificate* because it wouldn't be proof of US citizenship. But in some other types of family-based cases, the birth certificate is important for proving the family relationship, so in those cases it's still required even if the petitioner's birth was outside the US.

To keep it simple, they automatically request the birth certificate in that letter even if you are one of the 20% (or whatever) who won't need it. But the interviewer will be able to analyze each specific situation and request or ignore the birth certificate as appropriate.

*unless there is some discrepancy that makes them want to look at birth certificate, for example an error with his name or date of birth.

A copy of the birth certificate will suffice. As mentioned in the previous posts, the letter which instructs you specifically to bring the birth certificate can be overlooked as it is the general procedure. If you are questioned about the copy of the birth certificate, you can tel them that you have already applied online for a new one( if u do not receive one by that time). Keep us posted of your progress.Good Luck!!

thank you, guys, a lot!!!you are the best here!I'll post my time frame in June 2011 filers thread!thanks again!
