I am an US citizen and would like to sponsor my mother for Green Card. I have prepared the required forms I130, I864 and I485. But I am not sure if my Mother's Birth certificate is required for this process. She does not have one at present.
I have my birth certificate that has my moother's name on it.

Can any of you who have gone through this process please post your valuable opinion on this

Thanks in Advance

yes she needs her birth certificate if you dont send it they will ask you for a request for evidence letter~~~

I mean they will send you a request for evidnce letter which will just delay your case..if you ant find her birthcertifivate you wwill have to get a nonavaiability letter from the country where she was born~~~

I have some related questions regarding obtaining my mothers birth certificate.
1. If a non-availability certificate is obtained, do we need affidavit from two persons attesting to the birth of my mother? Do they need to obtained from someone older than my mother? My Mother is 73 years, and is difficult to find 2 relatives or friends older than her.
2. If a birth certificate is issued with no name on it (usually in India, babies are not named right when they are born, hence most birth records do not have the baby name, just the parents name and date of birth), what kind of affidavits are required?

I appreciate your responses.
Thanks..

Birth Certificates
Available.
Prior to l970, the reporting of births was voluntary. Birth certificates of Europeans, Anglo-Indians, Armenian Christians, Jews and Parsis born prior to l970 may be obtained from the State Registrar General of Births, Deaths, and Marriages. No standard or uniform certificate is issued by the authorities. In addition, acceptable certificates may often be obtained from the municipal and rural registration records, which are maintained under the state laws. Europeans, Anglo-Indians, and Indian Christians are usually able to obtain church baptismal certificates.

Under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act of l969, births are required to be registered in almost all of the States and Union Territories of India. Birth certificates are available to any applicant born on or after April l, l970, upon payment of a nominal fee to the appropriate authority.

In cases where birth certificates from the authorities are unavailable or contain insufficient information regarding the birth or the parents, a sworn affidavit executed by either the parents, if living, or other close relatives older than the applicant, may be submitted. It should set forth the relationship between the deponent and the applicant, how well the deponent knows the applicant, date and place of the applicant's birth, the names of both parents, and any other related facts. Such an affidavit, when a birth certificate is unavailable, should be accompanied by a document from a competent governmental authority confirming that the certificate does not exist, or no longer exists
