I am about to file 485 and obtained my birth certificate from Indian consulate at NY. There is $11 fee for this, I just want to know if this certificate will work(for 485 filing).

Thanks in advance

No this will not work.
Your lawyer may be able to submit 485
but INS will come up with an RFE later on.
What you need is :-
1) Affidavit from parents
2) Letter from Municipal autohrities that there
is no record of birth with their office

I\'d agree with 485hopeful. The other best way is to get a certificate from your place of birth. Your parents can make an affidavit searing in to the fact that you were born on this date at this place. this affidavit and they a copy of your high school certificate (I assume you are from India) as a secondary proof will be sufficient for the Municipal office (or birth/death regn. office) to issue a birth certificate.
This is how I got mine done. No questions will be asked at any point of time if you do it this way.

Hello,

My name was misspelled in my original BC and my wife's name was not there in her BC (they didnt give the name while registering) and when we asked the Municipal Authority to correct it by submitting them all the necessary documents, they refused to correct it.

They replied "NO NAME CHANGE OR INCLUSION OR SPELLING CORRECTIONS CAN BE DONE"

I have submitted my I-485 with my parent's affidavit and the BC issued from Indian Cosulate at Washington.

Will this cause a problem?

Thanks,
Antro
