Experienced folks out there,

My wife got a RFE on her I 485 for the birth certificate. Now, the situation is that we dont have a birth cert for her, and she was born in Rajasthan. And, we dont have relatives living there who can help us either.

Can we get a non-availability certificate from say Calcutta where we have relatives presently that states that birth was not registered ?

Are there any suggestions on how to approach this ?

I think your passport would be having her place of birth as city in Rajasthan and getting no availbility certificate from Calcutta can create some confusion and problems.

I read somewhere in this forum about the site called yourmanindia.com. They say they will be able to get the document on your behalf for the fee. Check the website , hope it helps. I personally havenot used it.
I doubt if the calcutta municipalty can help because they may not have the juridiction to give the certificate on behalf of Rajasthan birth. I may be wrong, its my personnel opinion. the website also has expedited service for extra fee, please check and consult with your lawyer for the plan.
SOME HELP FROM THE SENIOR MEMBERS PLEASE.

Sudmoni,

Thanks for the pointer to the web site. I was not able to get to it.
Can you check the name and let me know.

Thanks folks.

I just spoke with them. They are saying an estimated time frame is 30-40 days for a Non-availability cert.

Lakshya, Is that what they have mentioned to you ? Have you gone with the expedited service ?

Will appreciate input.

Yes their site says 30 days.

After submitting my details(which goes to B'lore, then to kolkata), I got email from Kolkata office with telephone number. I spoke to sarban. He looks very co-operative.

I think better You directly talk to him and get the exact time frame for your peace of mind. His mobile number is 9331824186.

Good Luck.

RFE - Birth Certificate

Yesterday we received RFE notice for a birth certificate copy for my wife's I-485. We already submitted it along with 3 affidavits, but we are surprising why they are asking for same birth certificate copy! Now what we have to send them? Should we send the same copy or get new affidavits? Our attorney was saying BCIS got new format for this and it's good to have new two affidavits in below mentioned format. But still we are not convinced with that, because when they are asking for birth certificate copy how do we send affidavits? Do they consider these affidavits as equivalent to birth certificate ? Thanks in advance and much appreciated for any kind of advises..
