Ok so I got my FP appointment letter. I looked at the office info online
https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?a...r.office_type=ASC&OfficeLocator.zipcode=36362
and it states military personnel does not need an appointment. Quote

This office provides services to military personnel from 9:00AM to 3:00PM, Tuesday through Saturday. Military personnel do not need an appointment.

My spouse is active duty military and we live on an Army post and I also have a military ID card, but I m just a dependent. I was wondering if I should try to do a walk-in at the Birmingham ACS. From what I gather there are no walk-ins usually for this office, I called USCIS 1800 and they told me its only for military personnel not their family dependents, but I find that a little hard to believe. And as a military spouse who's husband has been deployed etc I almost took that as a personal insult:(. Of course they might just be right. They would not give me a phonenumber of course where I could call and ask myself. Since it is a 4 hour drive should I try to walk-in or stick to my appointment? Any input is appreciated.

In my humble opinion, a 4 hour drive seems a little much to risk being turned away. My ASC is about a 20 minute drive for me, and I still didn't bother doing a walk-in. Your appointment is less than 2 weeks away. I'd wait.

thanks Vorpal for your sincere advise. I am mauling it over in my head, lol.

One thing you can do is make the drive and play dumb when you get there. Show them your military ID card, and if they turn you away, say that you read that no appointment is necessary for military personnel. If they don't budge, tell them that you just drove 4 hours. Hopefully, that'll help kick in some Southern hospitality and they'll accommodate you.

I thought of that too, hehe. But then again what's the hurry and point other then the weekend being more convenient for obvious reasons and it being so far away. I think your initial response is the right one. Not to mention my dad even agrees with your assessment, lol. I very much appreciate your opinions though:)

No problem. At least your timeline is moving quickly!
