Help..I am on F-1 and my OPT expires on April 4, 05 (minus 60 days grace)..i was planning to apply H-1 in 20K Category...but that looks like a distant possibility because they haven't started...my wife is on H-1 so should i go in on H-4 and also can i work in my 60 days grace period...pls advise ASAP..in lot of tension...thanx for the help

The 20K batch of H1b visas should be available in the next few days so you can still try to make use of those. In the meantime it is important for you to remain in valid status: ASAP file for your change of status to H4. In case the H1bs open up you can find a sponsoring company and let them file for your H1b either for this fiscal year (with an immediate start date) or for next fiscal year with an earliest start date of October 1.
BTW, you are not allowed to work during the grace period of your F1. I suggest you get in touch with an attorney and let them help you out.

If you are not sure, apply h4 immediately. Once the time is good for H1 (within a month or two after applying H4) apply H1 and withdraw h4.
