Although this may not be the right forum for this but I think this info will help all of us.

One of my close friend\'s life was virtually turned upside down by CEI America. This company gave an Offer letter to my friend 2 months back to join a client early July.

Based on that my friend gave notices to his current apartment, went to cei\'s client location , stayed in a hotel to fix an apartment ,signed lease with apartment mgmt, Fixed Movers to move stuff, got new telephone connection etc.

Prior to each of these steps he repeatedly got assurances everything was fine from CEI.My friend had got 2 more offers from other companies the same time when CEI gave the offer to my friend.He repeatedly asked CEI whether the deal was 100% finalized with the client.Their mgmt which included their director Lonney, the A/c Manager Bill Herriott gave him 100% assurance that the client had given a guarantee.Since the job profile was good my friend decided to wait for this job.

The above mentioned Managers were repeatedly asked by my friend for assurances but they gave him a guarantee that there was nothing to worry about.

My friend trusted these guys & said No to the other companies.

2 days before his move CEI called my friend & told the client has some mgmt probs. so they don\'t want anyone now.

My friend is facing 1000\'s of dollars in lease breakage & other costs.

CEI simply refuses to do anything now saying it has no legal obligations.

It seems this company CEI America ...which promises the client the world &
guarantees it\'s future employee of a job with Offer Letters & repeated guarantees by top management over the phone till my friend said No to the other job Offer.......has nothing called Integrity.

This company has virtually turned my friend\'s life into Hell. We are all trying to help him come out of this massive emotional trauma.

I wrote this incident here to make us all aware of this backboneless company.

I hope this will help us all to avoid such companies in future.

Acouple of weeks back one guy was asking about this Company and i had adviced him not to.. A couple of my friends got sacked in the recent past...

All these companies suck immigrant slaves blood . Everybody including INS and labor dept are aware o

But the capitalist industry requires slaves, so nobody is taking action.
 
Yep it\'s a Shame Desi companies like CEI are leading the way

to exploit their fellow countrymen.

These companies have become completely MORALLY BANKRUPT.

Yes. This company is a dangerous company. I heard horrible stories about this company in past. I worked with their consultants at a client place. They replace their consultants with just 2 day notice. They don\'t pay for apt lease breaking and other stuff that they are not obligated to. They have bloody performance evaluation team. My friends from that company use to be in tension and insecurity feeling all the time. The worst thing is they cancel H1 immediately. they are not like other consulting companies. they follow INS rules very strictly. So you can\'t sue them. I heard they pay as long as they hold your H1 and benefits equally. Its a big company. 40+ mill company. very aggressive in making profits. Their marketing managers lie all the time to get their share of money. I tell you with my 8 years experience in IT consulting. never ever trust your company marketing people. talk to your technical manager or president if possible. see only hiring & placing is their job. firing is not their job. president or technical manager does. Marketing people always tell you that you are doing a great job at client place and take you to lunch as long as the game continues. bottom line they don\'t evaluate you and they don\'t pay your salary. CEI has got very good marketing people. they place their consultants in hours. This is corporate America. I think we got to live with this system. But if you are in H1B life just sucks.

I have been in consulting for a few years now. This is just another story. Atleast it is good to hear that they follow the INS laws very strictly. I would trust that company more than a company that does not follow the INS rules. I have a friend too working in CEI who worked with me in my last project and can give you an update after checking on him.

In a nutshell, consulting companies are here to make money.....with our hard work ofcourse. Since last year I think we all consultants are stressed out on our job instability. As you rightly said, we have to live with the system. I would be depend more if I am supported by a good marketing team and also balance it off by being in regular touch with the technical team/president/non sales so that I get to hear the complete picture.

You are right. It is always good to join a company that follows INS rules strictly. no doubt in that. I should not have said the company is dangerous. they have 450 employees world wide. This company is a winning team. But companies should balance success,quality,business ethics and moral values. I should blame the market which made life miserable for people like sagar_agar\'s friend. well.. I should say worldcom is a dangerous company now.

Guys, the whole idea of this postings was
To put a face on these morally bankrupt companies( I am sure there are others) , So that if someone of us have multiple offers in future from different companies, we think twice if we plan to join CEI.

I am deeply disturbed personally, not because they have taken back my friend\'s Offer (since there have been other companies who did it bec. of client probs etc) BUT BECAUSE THE TOP MGMT OF CEI LIED TO MY FRIEND FOR PAST 2 MONTHS KNOWING THAT MY FRIEND HAD OTHER OFFERS FROM COMPANIES WITH IMMEDIATE START DATES, saying they have guarantees from client. My friend waited since the job profile was good.

As an outsider I don\'t think I will ever work with such companies whose top management lies left right & center on a regular basis.

Sorry to hear that. I am not a lawyer. However, You may want to consult a lawyer regarding this case, especially those lawyers practice in the area of labor law. Although employer can fire employee for almost any reasons, there are rules to protect employee in certain situation. Clearly in this case, employer is not acting in "good faith" and you friend relied on the "promise". Your friend may be able to sue for damages. Good Luck.
