BCIS, a profit making org ?

Recently I expressed my opinion that BCIS has changed its profile from a public service institute to a profit making organization, going commercial. I quoted an example about how they changed EAD renewal valid dates to generate more revenue. Now here is one more. Today BCIS announced that it will charge $100 from every student as terrorism related charges, because of student entry checks. The revenue generated will be $33 millions anually.

I guess the lawyers association should do something about these new fees collected by BCIS like hidden charges.

I just notice that more and more people are going through CP route, even though they are in the US already. Do you know that people spend probably about $1000 for travel, etc. to go through CP route, and the money doe not even go to BCIS, instead to airlines, hotels, etc. You don't need an MBA from HBS to figure out that this is a lost business opportunity.

If they are smart they should institute something like $1000 premium I-485, which is guranteed to get approved in, say 3 mo or 6 mo. I think majority of us would still be willing to pay to even more than that! (I think I paid more than $5000 total so far, mostly to my attorney fo doing nothing!). Furthermore I think that would even help them with budgeting, etc.

I personally don't mind paying reasonably more to get better service.

I totally agree with DaoMingTze - they perhaps should charge a premium for those interested in pursuing their 485s faster. This way atleast ,if BCIS intends to be a profit making org, they will be do better, than lose. At the same time people like us will get a hold of our lives than wait for years together to finally see some light.

Can we move a petition on that front - jaxen,edison and gurus - what do you say?

Hmmm....

I think everybody want their 485 to be approved faster and are ready to pay the $1000.00 or $5000.00 or what ever ... as a part of the premium processing if implemented .......

Then the Backlog for the Premium Processing increases and it will be the same repeat of history as today .... BACKLOGS .....
ha ? then to clean that we need to file a law suit then .....

Why can't we do it now ... ? Law suit is only the option left ... to the 485 filers ..... isn't it ?????

If I paid premium processing, and still backlogged; I would seek crazy amount of damage penalty in my lawsuit.
 
No Matter what we think about law suit....I'm more than sure nothing will happen ....firstly i believe all this lawsuit stuff is in air... few people has taken initiative ... which is good ...but i dont see it going anywhere ... though they have contacted congressmen etc.... but thats not going to solve our issue...

secondly law suit , i seriously doubt it will ever take place ... and even it's filled there is a high probablity of it getting it dismissed just for security reason, BCIS can geasily give that as an excuse and get out of it ...

Just my view ... others may shout at me and say whatever they want ...I'm not discouraging law suit stuff... just trying to be practical...
 
IPC302, I agree. BCIS will simply quote security reasons for delays.
Personally, however I feel that the administration is more at fault for our delays, than the BCIS.

I still remember felling a pit in my stomach last year around this time when the Republicans won the Senate and immediately pushed for the new Dept. of Homeland Security.

Tom Ridge / John Ashcroft came up with 'The Plan' for National security. Seriously, they called it "The Plan "

They can hire more guys with your premium money, to clear our cases. no extra burden on budget.

It's good to dream about premium processing for I 485.
Let's hope it will come true.
