folks,

i have a few questions regarding opening of a bank account in canada:

when you land for the first time and apply for your SIN card, how long does it take to get the SIN card?

do we get the SIN number first within 2 or 3 days and then the card by mail? (just like we get the SSN number if we call the office after 3 or 4 days)

if one does not have their SIN card or number, will the bank allow him/her to open a canadian dollar account?

what are the documents that any typical bank would require to open a new account from a landed immigrant?

can someone please answer with these questions, thanks very much in advance.

___ YES

-- PASSPORT, SIN application reciept that you will get from HRDC when you apply for SIN and your LP will be enough.

any other documents that would be required, specific to a particular bank? or is it the same set of documents that one needs to open a canadian dollar account?

other recently landed canadian PR's - can you share any of your experiences on opening of a new bank account?
