Baltimore Interview Experience.

Me and my wife were interviewed in Baltimore on 07/10 and got our passports stamped! We were called in about half an hour after our scheduled time by officer G who was a very pleasant African-American lady called Officer James. Immediately after escorting us to her office, she asked us to swear that we will tell the truth. Then she asked a series of rapid-fire questions to both of us: Did you commit any crime/felony? Did you ever lie to INS? etc..
After that she started looking at my file page-by-page! She asked for my W2s, 1040s, paystubs, employment letter, drivers license (with MVA change of address card), degree certificates, birth certificates and 2 INS photos. She had the 2 INS photos I had submitted with my i485, but she still insisted on 2 more. Thank God, we had them. She then asked me what I do for my company and matched that with the LCA. Most of the time, she was just doing her paperwork, and asked very few questions. My wife had an easier time! She was just asked when she last entered USA. She did not exactly remember the date, but the officer helped her out! Also, she was asked to recite her SS number. She then asked us to put our fingerprints on a sheet of paper where our parents name were printed and she stapled the photos to that sheet. After what seemed like an eternity (actually it was just 30 minutes), she said that we are approved and she got her visa numbers from the computer and stamped our passports. She said that now, she can get confirmation of numbers within a few seconds from the Department of State right on her computer. 2 months back, they had to wait for an hour or so to get a faxed confirmation! We were so elated at the end of it all, we walked across to the Wharf Rat and drank to our freedom!

My details :EB3 India, PD 03/98, ND 09/00, FP 03/01, Transfer date 03/01, Interview date: 07/10

Thanks to this wonderful site for keeping up our spirits during the long wait and also special thanks to Myladoor for immitracker.com!

BTW: Please think about carrying these additional documents with you, just in case. These are in addition to what INS has requested you to bring:

1. Degree Certificates (original)
2. Previous employment letters (in case you are an BS+5 years case)
3. 2 INS style photos.
4. Apartment lease agreement (to prove that you live in the address provided)
5. USA born childs Birth Certificate.
6. Cancelled IRS Cheques (to prove that you really paid taxes)
7. MVA change of address slip (in case your address is different from drivers license)
8. Social Security Cards.

Congrats. Normally you take original certificates at interview, what if they are in your home country language. Will they be satisfied with translations. Or you need to carry both .( original plus translated.
Thanks in advance.

My wife\'s birth certificate is not in English. She translated it to English and made a notorized statement that she is proficient in both the other language and English and to the best of her knowledge the translataion is true and complete. This seemed to satisfy the officer for she did not ask any questions about her bc. We had also carried her School Leaving Certificate which contained her birthdate just in case. Thank God, we did not have to use it!

No, she did not. She just looked at our MVA change of address card and was satisfied that we live in the place stated in the 485 application.

What do you mean by LCA. Did they check your labor certification or they checked your H1 job description??

When your address gets change you can go to MVA and fill out a form for change of address and they will issue you card with recent address (without picture, without any cost). You will need to take current license and two proof of recent address.

She checked my labor certification and not the H1 job description. There is a job description in the labor certification and she was making sure that I am currently doing the same job for my company.
