I am eligible to apply for citizenship. When they run a background check on you, do they also check your credit report? The reason I am asking is because I have one unpaid medical bill (insurance refused to pay it after they said that they would), that has been sent to collection agency. Is that going to show on my background check and can I be denied citizenship because of it?? Please help.

Your credit report has nothing to do with naturalization eligibility and as such they don't check it.

You could be bankrupt and your FICO score could be zero as well (although zero is not a realistic number). These are not factors for citizenship approval. Make sure that you don't have unpaid taxes though (unlike your medical bill).

Background check for criminal and illegal activities. If you are planning to apply for citizenship soon, have required documentation (tax transcripts and other related documents) ready.
