background check

We're going for our interview in March in Garden City, NY. From what I've been reading, a lot of people don't get their passport stamped because of the background check. Does it mean anything if my online status in the USCIS web page say that they've received the results of my fingerprints review?

No. Your fingerprints has nothing to do with the FBI name check that they are referring to. For the I-485 the FBI name check is run but nobody knows who is will going to get stuck in it.
Good luck,

I was feeling all excited about my interview...gosh, I though, I am almost there and then I have started reading about the FBI check and how people got stuck in it....some say since 2001! What the heck. Now I am scared to death!

Anyone who did not get a stamp in their passport due to the FBI check pending, how long did you have to wait to finally get it... DId you get the GC in the mail or did you have to go back to see the officer?

Any additional informaiton would be greatly appreciated.

My interview is this coming up Monday.

thank you,

I would like to know this too...anyone who did get your card after not getting stamped at interview...please respond.

I have not received the card yet because I recently got stuck in FBI. After reading about 60 pages on FBI check experience, I have came to conclusion that it can take anywhere from 6 months to 3 years to get name cleared. You don't have to go for second interview after name gets cleared. They will send you a RFE if they needs I 864 or medical or any other updated info. After that they send you a welcome letter and then GC. If your name get stuck then you have to stay on top of case by going to DO every month reminding about your case because some times after getting your name cleared from FBI, USCIS forget to resume process on your case.

One more thing. I just looked at the title of the thread.
Background check and FBI check is different things. Background check is doe by USCIS which get clear very fast. In 6 months max. FBI check is done by FBI. Detail on FBI check is in my previous post.

Is the Security Clearance they tell you about a FBI check or background check?

USCIS vs. FBI

amishah,

Since background check is done by USCIS, which means it is all about the immigration violation; FBI name check is done by FBI, which means it is all about criminal violation. Am I right ?

Amishah,

If that is true that FBI name check and background check are two different things, I feel better. When i asked the officer what is tjis really baout he said that they r doing a background check and waiting on for results. That means I can get approval in few months?.I feel little better but i will keep my fingers crossed.

Hi all,

I am also very concerned about this topic (FBI name clearance) , seems like a lot of people get stuck with it. Now, I am wondering if it's because FBI is so backlogged with cases or it's because poeple who get stuck have possible so to say "name identical twins"?

Any ideas?

The FBI takes your name and breaks it up into first name, last name and middel name, then they run all possible combinations on the computer like
last name first name initial , last name first name, last name middel ititial first initial...etc etc

and if even one shows a match then a FBI personal has to look at the matches and clear you.

So if your last name is lee, smith, singh, khan etc you are going to be stuck..it's a stupid system but it works for the INS as they can delay your GC as long as possible.

Clq: when did you submit your application to the INS and what was your timeline? Im also in long island so I guess I will be going to Garden City

Are only your name variations taken into consideration? How about date and place of birth?
