Background check question

I am not sure if this question is more applicable for the citizenship process or not. But I want to ask here in case somebody can answer it for me.

In a nutshell the name check performed by FBI is criminal record check. But I heard that for the "background check" USCIS employs a private company to do your background check that gives search results similar to those you can get when you pay X amount of money on the net: the marriage records, past address records, etc etc. Is that true or just heresay? Just curious.

Dear Clotty:

Yes, you are right. besides FBI's record, INS does lots of research on you INS herself. marriage, education, job's nature, your past living countries record, which Party you joined, pen name etc. very complicated, so we have wait for longer time. we need to give INS time. especially for those simple name," hit" when your name are input the seaching engine like: "Google". anyhow, just wait & wait. one year is not enough, then five years, ten years???

Cody, so do they employ a private company to do that? and did you hear something from someone or read someting about it that suggested to you that they made these X and Y searches? I mean ideally they would double-check every tiny thing that is written on our forms, but maybe they are only double-cheking certain things and not others ;and I am curious to know what they are searching, especially for citizenship. I am not talking about criminal record searches. Just curious what kind of steps the file goes through, if not for 1485 aplication then for citizenship application.

Dear Clotty:

I do not think they use Private company to do research. INS does it herself. It is very complicated as I know. They can find out anything about you. It is True ID Act. As I think if you do not do anything wrong, just wait. We can work, live here already. Give INS time, bro.

By saying "give INS time", I think you misunderstood the intent of my first post. Actually I was not necessarily talking about the GC approval process. I was not saying "why is my approval taking long". Hell no; I am more than grateful that I do not have to wait till 2012 like it could have been if things had not changed and improved. So I have NOOO problems waiting a few more months. That is not why I made this thread; this is not about me having concern about my current application in the system. I was just being curious about the every step INS takes as far as research goes for both GC approval and citizenship approval. I vaguely mentioned in my first post that this was more concerning the citizeinship process but I thought maybe some of the research doene during that process might be similar to the GC application ones. Maybe I should have posted it in the citizenship section. I did not make this thread with hands on my hips being all anxious and impatient, nope; so don't tell me to "wait. We can work and live here" which is smtg I already know. I am just curious, NOT anxious or impatient. This is me wanting to know what they do to everyone, especially for citizenship process , because it peaked my interest after reading a few threads in that section; that is all. Like I siad I should have posted this in the citizenship section.

By the way, in regards to "bro", I am female. :p

Dear Miss:

Sorry, I took you as a Bro. You are right. Go to Citizenship section. You can lots the front part, something about name checking, you can find out many materials there. thanks

I already did make a search on the citizenship section which is where I read that post that said that iNs employs a private company for background check stuff but on that section I also read posts by other posters that the background check is still mainly a criminal record check in a way and not, say, double checking more personal info like marriage licenses, past employments, etc etc. Anyway, I may ask a lawyer if my curiosity of how exactly they operate continues. It was not a biggie, just a passing curiosity. Thanks anyway.
