hello everybody,
i'm about to apply for natz and i'm in the process of getting all documents together, however i read some stories about people waiting long times for processing because of background check.
from what i read it's to my understanding that green card background check is the same as natz. true or not? actually for green card is more thouroughly, because it also involves a CIA check, when natz it doesnt.
however 3 years ago my consular processing it only took 3 weeks. so my anylogy is that consular processing is the same as adjustment of status since it's the same result, a immigrant visa. am i correct so far?
the only difference is , they didn't take the fingerprints, only a NCIC III check, (based on name only,it's the same database as the one they do it through fingerprints but this is done on name and date of birth, however if is a hit they require fingerprints too).
i couldnt find anywhere if they do the infamous namecheck which takes forever for somepeople. can anybody shed some light here if the embassy also does the FBI namecheck for immigrant visas?
i did a FOIA request with USCIS and the file was released in full, but no where in the file i found anything regardind any background check anf any kind. NCIC III, IBIS, or name check.is this weird or what?
all the info i know i gathered from internet.
since the green card processing took so little time at embassy , should i expect little time at natz too?
all have a good day.

the green card processing is different than the naturalization process. you will be required to have your name / background checked again during naturalization process. i went thru the CP for my green card. However, I do not know it matters to the naturalization process at all.

Ok guys, I’m sorry maybe I didn’t express myself clear enough. I’m fully aware that it will be another background check, all over again.
I just want to find out if the background check done for natz is the same as the one done for an immigrant visa. I was fortunate that my took very little time ( of course I didn’t have any criminal activity ),so I’m hoping that the natz one will be the same short time. I see that some unfortunate people have to wait a long time when others are approved fast.
It seems that the check which holds back applicant is namecheck.
the fingerprint check goes very fast, it’s either positive or negative, either have a criminal record or not.
I couldn’t find anywhere if the embassy does the same namecheck as the one done in US for natz or green card. If they do it means that the natz check will go very fast which is great.
I just wanna be one step ahead of the game , in case I get tangled in waiting game.
Have a great day.

well, i believe you went thru your CP at least 5 years ago. it was different of the name check process for the naturalization now.

however, in the past 5 yrs, if someone which the similar name of yours, from the same country, to have crimial record(s) in US, your name mght got a hit and it might take a while before it would be cleared.

I *think* if you went thru the CP, it would involve the CIA check which it hits the central database for all names / background, plus, i heard the CP applicants, their names / background would be gone thru the Interpo too.

I had to go through name check in 2002 when I got my green card. It took 3 weeks also only. Now with naturalization, It has been pending for a year now.

that's not good...
a few years ago it took 3 weeks and now over 1 year?!
well , i guess i have to hope it will not be the case with me.
good luck to all.
