B2 visa under administrative processing - blue slip at Bern embassy

Hi All,

I applied for a B2 visa in the Bern embassy on the 5th of April 2011. I want to attend my brothers wedding in June 2011 in Texas. I had all my documents with me (letter from my employer stating that I have an approved leave for that purpose and will return back to Switzerland to continue with my assignment here, last 3 month sal slips, my bank accnt statements for the last 3 months, our joint account statements, my tax returns both for India and Swiss for last year, my brothers invitation letter, my brothers wedding card, my marriage certificate (married in Oct 2008), the document showing my house ownership in India which I purchased in 2009, my mutual funds document etc, my company deputation letter which states my annual income)

My eldest brother is a US citizen, my mother is a permanent resident and my brother who is getting married is on a H1B in US since the last 3 years or so. I have been working in Switzerland on deputation since July 2007. I have traveled to Italy and Switzerland earlier and also have been for Haj(religious pilgrimage) around 5 years ago.

I have previously been rejected a L1B applied by my company from the Chennai consulate where the VO just asked me to apply for an H1B instead.

The consular officer asked me a few questions like are my parents there.. so I told him my mother is there and my dad has passed away. Then he asked me the date of the wedding which i replied as 10th June 2011.
He asked me since when I have been in Swiss -- since July 2009
He asked me what I do in Swiss, so I said I am employed with xxx company and am working on a proj for yyy company as a test manager. So he asked me if i m in IT and I said yes (yyy is a company for Steam turbines, power etc).
Then he said my visa would have to go through administrative processing and it would take 3 weeks. He returned all my docs except my passport. And gave me a blue form (which does not have any thing like a 221 written anywhere on it.. just says that my visa requires AP and asks me to submit my CV to bernniv at state.gov. He also asked if I had my CV with me then, which I did not and hence I came back to office.

Now my questions are as follows:
1. I want to travel to India for the Easter holidays, but I dont have my passport with me. Should / Can I ask for my passport back as I read in a few forums that asking for your passport back is not a good idea in case of non immigrant visas?
2. What are the chances of me getting the visa stamped?
3. Can I depend on the VOs statement that it will take 3 weeks? (Hope insha allah that it doesnt take more than that)

A1: You have every right to ask for your passport.
A2: That all depends on what the result of the administrative process is. For the time being it seems you overcame 214(b). That is a good sign.
A3: Well, take that time period with a grain of salt. It may take longer than that.

Thanks for the reply!!
I am planning to call them this Friday, ie tomorrow to know if I can have my passport for the upcoming India travel, hope they still process my application and don't cancel the whole process as I want my passport back. Thanks again for the reply :)

got back passport

Hi,
Got back my passport after an initial shock.. where in the lady at the visa section mentioned that the US embassy does not have my passport.. did not bother to check that the passport was right under her hand.. whatever the case may be.. I am glad I got the passport finally :)
Have been asked to deposit it back with them as soon as I come back from my trip.... can anyone tell me if this is a good sign and i will get my visa soon then?

Thanks for the replies in advance! :)

No sign whatsoever. You wanted your passport back and you got it. Do not read into it more than you should :)
