B2 Visa Question

First off hello everyone

I just would like to ask you guys and gals a few questions to put my mind at ease. Im going to calling to arrange an interview for a B2 visa in London's US embassy today. I am currenty married to a US citizen however we have been seperated for almost a year and we intend to divorce. According to NC law we have to be sep'd for 1 year so im planning to return to NC when the year time period is up (may 15th) and stay with friends locally while me and the soon to be ex-wife sort through the divorce process.

From what im told it will take at least 2 months. What ive decided to do is, go there for 6 months. 2 months to sort out the divorce and then 4 months to visit and stay with some of my friends in the US. In other words, make a decent trip out of it. While im currently unemployed, my father is going to be covering my board with my friends and sending me money every month for the 6 months to cover my other expenses.

My questions are

What do i need to bring as a proof of residence here in the UK that I will be returning to when the 6 months is up?

What do I need to bring as proof that my father can support me financially while im in the USA?

What additional fee's apart from the intial payment will i need to bring with me, like for example for the postage to return my passport to me?

Whats my chances heh

Thanks in advance, pip

Then I would advise you to use VWP. If you ask for a 6 month visa, the US consulate will need to know why you need it. If the divorce proceedings take 2 months, then you will be fine on your VWP. Seeing that you are unemployed, don't expect the consulate to be compassionate with regards to your desire to make a decent trip out of it. At the end of the day, it is your call. Choose wisely. Good luck!!!

Then just use your British Passport to eneter the USA with the visa waiver program. I think the chances for you getting a B2 visa are ZERO. Too many things that the officer will look: unemployed, married to a U.S. citizen, Long trip 6months...

You should just go with the VWP, stay 3 months and try to finish it all in 3 months and then if necesary come back to the US after a few months.

Well i dont really feel that i would be given sufficent enough time with the VWP so this is why im applying for the b2. As for my employment status, i will not be classed as unemployed if I get the job im going for next week, I already asked the guy if I was able to take the time off and according to him it shouldnt be a problem. Yes i know, starting a new job then taking 6 months off is nuts however, the owner of the business is a friend of mine and he has approved it providing of course im back after the 6 months which i will be. Plus ive already gathered enough evidence to make god shrink in fear for proving i can support myself and that i have ties to this country

Yeah i will and thanks for all the advice everyone. I can appreciate what cord said and ive taken them into account and if I was sure that it would only take 2 months tops then I would use the VWP. However as im sure we all know, things rarely ever go to plan so in my view im simply being pro-active in my approach to coming to the USA to not only sort out the end of this marriage but to visit people I met in NC last year who I promised I would come and visit them. It was thier suggestion that I stay for 6 months and since it gives me more time to get the divorce sorted I kinda figured it was the smarter choice

I really do have strong ties to the UK and im going to be looking forward to working in my new job should I get it. Anyway yeah wish me luck :D
