Hi all,
My parents are in Us right now and they got one year tourist visa. If I file an extension of stay on their current tourist visa, will it make it harder for them to get visa for re-entering? I wouldn't worry so much if they had 10 year multiple entry.
please help me out...thanks in advance

The VO had seen them as a potential immigrant candidates and had given them only one year visitor visa. Normally visitor visa is given for 10 year multi visa if some body prooves strong ties in his home country. You have not mentioned what is the date given in I94. I strongly recommend not to ask for an extension and let them go back to their home country before the expiry of I94 date. This will help them to get 10 year multi visa when they apply for visitor visa after the expiry of the present one.

how long do they need to stay in india before re-applying?

Thanks for the response. Their I-94 expires on Nov 12th. and they received one year multiple entry visa. So my only concern is that if they apply for an extension how hard would it become for them to re-apply next time?

Also, how long do they need to wait before they apply for tourist visa again, if they go back in nov without extending?

It seems that you are bent upon to extend thier B2 visa. I am unable to answer you on this. However, they can apply for a fresh visitor visa once their one year visa is over.

Extensions are for emergencies. Except if your parents are both in a hospital and near death, your extension is likely to be denied, and future visa applications will be extremely difficult.

No i am not totally convinced about extensions. just want multiple perspectives on the issue. I am myself evaluating both pros and cons and long-term effects on their tourist visa approval.

thanks for your inputs on the subject

For their long term benifit, please avoid extension if it is possible and let them return before the expiry of I94 date. They can visit you again till the last date of expiry of the present visitor visa provided they stay more time in thier own country than the one they stayed in USA. For example, if they have stayed with you for 4 months in USA, they should atleast stay in their home country for 6 months or more before visiting you again.
Best wishes.
