B2 extension while B2 is pending.

Hi,

I was laid off in December'2008, immediately I applied for a B2 (visitor) visa and requested for visa till March end. I was hoping to find a job during this time. I neither got a job nor the result of B2 visa. Can I apply for B2 extension to borrow some more time to look further for a job?
