B2 administrative processing? applied in Sydney with Indian passport

Hi,

I intend to travel to US for my wife's family reunion. My wife and kids are Australian Citizens, but I hold Indian passport though I am an Australian Permanent resident. I applied for B2 visa 3 weeks ago at Sydney Consulate and had only about 3-minute interview. The interviewer told that I would get the visa in 10 days, but have not received it yet. My wife's parents had their interview on same day in India and it was approved within 2 days, they are already in US now.

When I emailed amvisa they said my application is undergoing administrative processing and they cannot give me a timeline. I am a research worker at a Australian university. The problem now is that I have already booked my tickets and tour packages of the US trip as I was made to believe that I would get visa within 10 days. My wife's ESTA was also approved.

I was not asked for any additional documentation at the time of interview. I had lots of additional docs such as my sister-in-law's invite, my financial status and employement history/status. But a notice at the consulate office told that I should provided extra docs only when asked for. Also the interviewer said that I would receive the visa in 10 days, so I did not care to provide extra docs.

Is there anyway that I can provide these additional docs? Does anyone has any indication of how long it might take for a person in the research field?

Any suggestions or infromation would be highly appreceiated...

Thanks in advance
Babu

If you have not been asked to provide anything, then you do not need to provide anything. Your background is being checked (most likely). You have no option but to wait it out. It may take weeks, it may take months.

Hi Babu,
Any update on your Case?
I am on similar situation.

I came to Australia to visit my family. We are Permanent residence.
Applied for H1b Stamping June 3, 2011.
Got an email from AMVISA that VISA is approved and they are mailing our PP back in few days. Did not receive the PP after weeks...while I email them the reply is it is going through Admin Processing.
We are stuck here now and working remotely now.
But, not sure how long this stupid process will take and how long my employer will understand this situation.
I lived in US for last 14 years, finished my MIS degree, then working on H1b.
This is very frustrating.
Please share your experience so that I may plan with our life.
Regards,
Monir

If you have lived in the US for 14 years, you should be aware that this process, albeit slow, is not stupid. It is a process that emerged due to certain events that took place in the last 14 years.
Administrative process involves several federal agencies. Once the consulate requests an applicant's background check, they need to wait until all the relevant federal agencies in DC give the consulate the all clear.

But, not sure how long this stupid process will take and how long my employer will understand this situation.
