B1 Rejected ..

My m-i-l's b1 application was rejected after
interview at Mumbai Consulate. The reason
was potential immigrant.

She was told that she can try after 3 days..
but she should have more documentation.
She went with the following for the first one:

1. My H1 Approval Notice
2. My wife's H4 Approval Notice
3. Letter from my employer
4. Affidavit of Support
5. Letter from myself & wife inviting her to US
6. My paystub copy
7. Copies of all pages of our Passport
8. My bank/401k/Stock Statements

What did we miss here ?? Can someone tell
what docs can we take so that her application
might get thru the second time ..

Thanks,

Thanks,
You missed everything that ties your MIL to India. You list only those documents that relate to you, the sponsor.

Consulate looks for strong reasons to return to India after the visit. You should have her reapply with as many of the following documents in addition to what you have listed:

1) Proof of income.
2) If she runs a business then tax records, income statements, etc.
3) Bank statements.
4) If employed, letter from employer.
5) If employed by government, a "No Objection Certificate".
6) Proof of ownership of any property in India ( Land/house, card, etc.)
7) A travel itinerary with details of places intended to visit in the US (or a general description of what she intends to do in the US).
8) Details of family in India ( husband, other children, etc.)

dumbledorf,

When your m-i-l's went for an interview what were the questions asked and what were her answers?

Did your m-i-l's asked for a translator?

Did the consulate ask for any supporting papers? If not, did your m-i-l's tried to show the consulate the supporting documents (list seen below)?
