B1 to H4 conversion

I am currently on an H1B visa and my wife entered on a B1 visa. She had obtained the B1 visa prior to our marriage but came to US only after our marriage. I was wondering if its possible to convert her B1 to H4, while she is still in US ? or is it required that she leave the country and then get a H4 stamp. In the latter case can we get the H4 stamp from Mexico/Canada ?

She can change status to H-4 from the US and can get it extended until you are in H-1 status. However, once she leaves the U.S., she will need H-1 visa stamp in her passport to reenter.

Thanks for the useful information.
In my case, I have a H1-B and I-94 till 2008 (stamping has expired).

My wife got her status changed from B1 to H4 here. Her I-94 is also valid till 2008. So, she still has not stamped H4.

My question is: Can I change employer with this situation? I believe we can.

Please let me know, would really appreciate the help.
