My friend came to US on a B1 visa, a petition for H1 for him is already filed. can he start working in US from 1st October, 2006. If so what needs to be done?

He can only start working from Oct 1, 2006 provided his H1 approval comes with an I 94 at the bottom of approval notice. If not, he has to go to his home country to get H1 visa stamped on his pp.

did your friend specify at the POE that he intends to convert to a H1? If he did not inform the office at the POE, then he is not going to get a H1 with an I-94 stub below it.

If the H1 arroval comes along with I 94 then he can start working from 1st oct, 2006.
