Hello everyone,
I am currently living in Pennsylvania on a B1/B2 visa. My fiance (who happens to be a USC) and I are planning to tie the knot very soon.
However, we are both clueless as what to do about changing my status to a permanent resident. I would appreciate any stepwise advice anyone with knowledge has to offer in this matter. For starters, I have a few questions:
1) I am assuming that once we receive the marriage certificate, we have to file a formal application with the INS, which includes what forms????????
2) Once the application is with INS, how long does it take for the authorities to issue a SSN? Is this time frame the same across the board or it depends largely on individual states?
3) How long does it take for the work authorization to be issued?
4) We would like to go on our honeymoon but are not sure what to do about travelling documents. Any advice?
5) What is the difference between a fiance's visa and naturalization via marriage? Would it be easier to get a fiance's visa first and then upgrade to a spouse's?
