I've a question and would greatly appreciate any help in this matter...

I graduated last august with a Ph.D. from RPI, New York. I want to invite my mom for my GRADUATION PARTY... The university gave me letter officially inviting my mom for the ceremony.

I got a job in silicon valley and got my H1 approved last october. We don't have a lot of property in India.. and I am still settling here in CA.. This is the background. My questions are:

1) I make 100K/year... I can get my tax statement, employee verification letter etc. from my employer.. HOW MANY $$ should I show in my bank account??
2) I think inviting parents for PhD graduation will make a stronger case than a H1B engineer inviting parents for tourism... Is there any other thing I can do to make my case stronger??

Please answer my question... thanks in advance...

The key will be your mother (or both parents) convincing the consul that they will leave the US after a temporary visit. They are coming over to meet you. Whether it be tourism or your PhD graduation ceremony, the core obstacle in acquiring a visa remains the same.
