I won an American Soceity of XX scholarship award when I was a student. All participants were students but only 2 awards on annual basis. It is mentioned somewhere on the web. It was a competition: we had to submit a research article we were working on at the time.

Question: Does it help at all as an award?

EB1 -
-dont bother as Award criteria because it is restricted to students.
-but itcan still be used for contributions which were recognised by wider community at large by way of award
-take a risk on award criteria
NIW definitely

Thanks drak70.

Also, most of US Ph.D.s had Research Assistantship or Teaching Assistantship awards.

I had an RA award for a monthly stipend and tuition remission for the entire 3 years of my Ph.D. The stipend totalled to about 60 grand. Does it worth mentioning as an award for EB1/NIW?

Thanks in advance for clarifications.

Student awards are not much valued. You need to show awards that had established scientists with grey hairs as competitors to prove you are extraordinary

Does it help to mention competitive scholarship awards like CSIR fellowships (these are not given to everyone as a rule and one has to clear a national level exam to get this) for your Ph.D. in India as part of your NIW application. Just to show you are an outstanding and competent researcher from the start.

Yes Everything counts : also make sure to provide evidence that your fellowship was comptetive( eg ADVT)

EB1 -No
-dont bother as Award criteria because it is restricted to students plus it for living expenses and is not for competitive purpose nature.

NIW definitely - used for contributions which were recognized
