AVR - Expired Visa Question

Hi guys. I am traveling to Toronto for a few days and would like to ask a question regarding using AVR under an expired visa. I have a current I-94 and an H1B approval notice. The regulation states that i can use an expired F1 visa to enter the U.S., but my question is, since the expired F1 visa is in my old expired passport, would that create a problem? I had to renew my passport since i entered with the F1 visa and there are no visas in my current passport.

I would appreciate if anyone has had similar experiences before.

Just came back using the AVR and thought i'd post my experience for others.

I had a current I-94 showing H1 status. I used an expired F1 visa which was in an expired passport from 10 years ago. I had called the day before to confirm. When i reached the first officer at the Toronto POE, needless to say he was clueless and had to check with his superior. He came back and asked me for my I-94 from the previous F1 status, fortunately i had it on me. He said if i didnt have it, that might be a problem which i didnt understand. anyway, i was sent to the office to speak to what appeared to be his supervisor. He looked at all my stuff and gave me a new h1 I-94 with the same info as my previously current H1 I-94. He did keep my old F1 I-94, when i asked for it back he said that i will not need it in the future, they just ask people if they have it as the the uscis attempts to collect all old I-94.

So bottom line, i used AVR on a current H1 I-94, approval notice and an F1 expired visa from 10 years ago which was in another passport. Just thought i'd share.
