Au Pair J-1 visa to B-2?

How can I change my J-1 visa, not subject to the 2 years rule and with an extension already, to a B-2?

I'd like to stay in USA for another period to travel and look for a job at the same time. My boyfriend (USA citizen) and I are engaged but we don't want to get married soon even though we've been dating for 1 year and 8 months by now and we love each other very much, but still I'd like to get a job before and then, if it's possible, apply for a Green Card and, after that, get married.

If I can, what should I do? Any idea of what could I say, in the B-2 application, to make this happen? or any suggestions about my situation?

P.S.: My J-1 visa expires on april 13th/2011 :(

Thanks a lot for your help

What you plan is not lawful.

A B-2 is a tourist visa. You have definite "immigrant intent" and it will be denied unless you flat out lie about your intentions which is fraud and will come back to haunt you later and require a waiver which will require showing extreme hardship to a qualifying relative that you do not have. IF you have the education and experience required to obtain a non-immigrant work visa (like an H1-B or H2-B etc...) seek an employer who is willing to file a petition on your behalf.

In the alternative, your USC boyfriend can file an I-129F for youn in the future to bring you back as a fiance. [Or you can immigrate as a spouse when you do get married.]
