ATTENTION EVERY ONE : PLEASE JOIN - Petition further ideas

Also I can make sure that we have enough signatures by sending the link to local indian mailing lists that reach a lot of desis.

frantic,
I appreciate signature drive. Approaching media - Let's get more feedback from others.

Media

I personally do not like the idea of taking our issue to the media. We don't want public attention in this bad job market. We will only invite a strong opposition group (from labour unions and other anti immigrant groups). How ever politicians may be sympathetic towards us because they know that we are a big vote block in very near future. As Cinta told, there are a lot of immigration reform bills pending in congress and we can definitely influence some congresmen to include our demands in thier bills.
It's not really as tough as we might fear. Infact reaching out to the politicians will be a much better idea than reaching out to BCIS through Khatri.

More Suggestions

1. Shall we use this thread to draft a letter to the congress men ?
2. Shall we create a new thread to discuss various ways and means of collecting thousands of signatures for our campaigns ?
I think dengdeng's energies can help towards this effort. The Subject of the thread should be catchy: something like
"ATTENTION EVERY ONE : PLEASE JOIN" . within that thread, we can ask peole to give their suggestions for different ways of collecting the signatures for our petitions.

Re: Media

Firstly, this is legal immigration(employment related). I have not seen many oppose this form of immigration as we pay taxes.
The labor union approved our petitions(I-140) before, so they will support their stand.
Having said that:- Whether making it a national issue on media channel will yield something in the short run is debatable. Since we are so close to our completion, we should use someone who can just expedite these backlogs. A strong senator can be lobbied for this case. AILA experts might be able to articulate it lawfully.

Follow Up

dsatish, edison and all others,

I wanted to mention that in this country, the power is distributed in many areas beyond than what the "average guy" can see.
The Government (Executive, Judicial, Congressional), the Special Interests, the Lobbies, the Press, the TV, the Radio, the Think
tanks, the Big companies are all interrelated in more ways than one. We may for example send only one letter to one editor of one
newspaper and see results. The US Government works in more ways than imaginable. So let us go along all possible venues.
Somebody should be able to catch it.

But there are some media outlets which target only the elite, who are generally rational in their thinking. This petition should be for us and also for all the subsequent applicants.

kashmir,
Let's submit petition to congress men. Did you prepare any letter?
If not let's start working on one. You can post it in this thread . We will all give our inputs.

Changed the title to 'ATTENTION EVERY ONE : PLEASE JOIN - Petition further ideas' per Edison's request.

My Personal Opinion:-Sorry if this discourages/hurts few people's idea of going for the Media at once..

1) Lets target the Media as the last resort, after our petition to Mr. Prakash, to Local Congressman/Senators etc., taking up our issues.

2)If the above isn't fruitful, we can go in for the Media, as it can go either way...favorable to us or against us in this particular sensitive issue, when the economy is soft, unemployment issues etc.,

Just my thought..!

Opinions

Hi fellows,

1: After finishing the petition, let us see where and how we can post it for signatures. There are a lot of free web based petition sites (just run a search on "petition". This will increase our visibility.
2: As far as the PRESS and TV/RADIO they are all fine. There is no problem with a simultaneous attack. Have the congressman read his e-mail, mail and newspaper (maybe in one week) and see the same thing mentioned. It does make a difference.
3: We should start making contacts with AILA and also AILF (the latter take donations also).
4: Before anybody starts any campaign, please refer to the following link..

Cheers

Senators and Congressmen provide the Casework Services (Constituent Services) for constituents
to deal with matters involving federal agency such as the BCIS.
It may be useless like kia's case.

For Clueless123, it seemed useful.

Usually, we may not expect much results.

Anyway, you can send your own request with the Privacy Release (Consent) Form that you need to sign.
Once Senator/Congressman received your request,
he/she must respond to you in writing.

As many people as possible should send the Letter.
If your I-485 application has been pending for more than 180 days, I recommend you to send it.
It costs only about $10 even sending three letters via USPS Certified Mail.

Then, some representatives per state/district start contacting Senator/Congressman.
They will not ignore us at that time.

We don't need to wait until many signatures coming.
We can start it right now.

Based on actual employment based Immigration numbers for last three years, we can't sue BCIS.
But obviously for 2003 it will be very less. So we have some some chance after they publish this annual report.
Hi Edison,

Let us see the 2003 numbers after September 30. It is not clear however since they may manage the numbers with previous years allocation numbers. In other words the approvals for 2003 certainly contain numbers allocated for 2002 and even 2001.
But besides this number issue, the processing time by itself may be grounds for the lawsuit. Thanks for clearing the numbers for everybody.

P.S.: Thanks 'davh' for providing this info (link.....).

Edison,

Can we request people to contact "their" lawyers and see what they say? This way we will get the AILA stand on the issue. If it is not satisfactory due to some AILA political or special interest, then we can expose it. By the way I used their Advocacy center campaign to send e-mail about the Driver License which was very easy to do. In their prepared campaign letters, there is nothing about any backlog. It looks like they recognise individual pieces of the problem like DL, 1-800 number, etc but still avoid to pinpoint the ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. It is like treating the symptoms, or more precisely, trying to do and avoiding going for the cure.
Note: At this moment, I would rather not contact "my" lawyer due to several factors, one being the last time I did I was really shut out of the process. There is clearly some conflict of interest also between the company and the employee in most of the cases where the company pays for them.
