I have a female friend who stays with me at my address and has asylum interview coming up soon. I think of doing the interpreter for her at asylum interview. I did it for myself in my own court hearing without outside interpreter.

My question is, Will it be a problem if i act as her interpreter because I myself went through the asylum process and her address is same as mine?

That's a small dilemma i have.

As long as you are not her lawyer, and you are not related to her in no way (husband, brother etc...) you can be her interpreter. You should be fine. Just have a proof of your legal immigration status in U.S. with you that day.

I thought that being related is not a problem
My sister is a certified translator and she translated all the docs for me, when I applied for asylum (or is that different?)

jonny1,
preparer cannot be an interpreter for the same applicant. And its very hard to convince the officer in your friends' case that you didn't help her preparing the application.
I believe you can interpret for her but convincing the officer is difficult. if I were you, i would find somebody else to interpret.
