thanks

You can apply for Adjustment of Status with a petition from your spouse as soon as you're married (and you get the marriage certificate, which might take a few weeks). You could also wait until 1 year after you got asylum to apply for Adjustment of Status as an asylee.

See youre not getting any time benefits in time here. If don't want to complicate it and save some money; apply after one year of asylum grant :)

Practical Advice:

Abandon the asylum process. Why? The wait time to be eligible for citizenship is longer:
1. Citizenship via asylum: The wait time if 4 years, after you get the green card, 1 year wait time before you can apply for the green card. When you apply for your green card, they might take ages to give it to you. Mine took 22 months. So in total, you might end up waiting: 22+ months (can go up to 43 months) + 1 year wait to apply + 4 years to be a citizen.
2. Citizenship via marriage: The wait time is 3 years, after you get your green card. When you apply for your green card after getting married, they process your green card super fast: 4 months. They don't play around. So, in total, you end waiting: 4 months + 3 years to be eligible to apply for citizenship.

+ Green card through marriage means you can visit your old country if your asylum situation has changed etc, no issues. There is more freedom with your marriage green card than the asylum green card. You can't visit the old country, even if the situation changes three years from now.

Good luck.

AOS via marriage involves filing for removal of conditions if GC is issued prior to two year marriage anniversary = additional financial expense. Plus more documents required when filing for citizenship via marriage.

Plus there’s no guarantee the initial GC will only take 4 months - Processing time depends on the applicable FO’s workload.

I am not sure about this. The residence starting date is backdated 1 year from when Adjustment of Status through asylee status is approved. That means the OP would be eligible for naturalization under the 5-year rule 4 years after AOS is approved, but I think it also means that the OP would be eligible for naturalization under the 3-year rule 2 years after AOS is approved, if they have been married to a US citizen for 3 years at that point. So I think the time until naturalization if adjusting via asylum would be the later of (3 years after marriage to US citizen) and (1 year after asylum granted + time it takes for AOS + 2 years (actually 2 years minus 90 days because you can file early)).

Another difference is that adjustment via a family-based petition requires the petitioner to file an Affidavit of Support, whereas asylee adjustment does not. The petitioner may be unwilling to file or be unable to meet the requirements.

Marriage based would be little complex plus risky as you already approved w/ Asylum. No point of taking a risk.
Get Asylum based GC. You should be able to file for for citizenship after 3 years of marriage
