Practical Advice:
Abandon the asylum process. Why? The wait time to be eligible for citizenship is longer:
1. Citizenship via asylum: The wait time if 4 years, after you get the green card, 1 year wait time before you can apply for the green card. When you apply for your green card, they might take ages to give it to you. Mine took 22 months. So in total, you might end up waiting: 22+ months (can go up to 43 months) + 1 year wait to apply + 4 years to be a citizen.
2. Citizenship via marriage: The wait time is 3 years, after you get your green card. When you apply for your green card after getting married, they process your green card super fast: 4 months. They don't play around. So, in total, you end waiting: 4 months + 3 years to be eligible to apply for citizenship.
+ Green card through marriage means you can visit your old country if your asylum situation has changed etc, no issues. There is more freedom with your marriage green card than the asylum green card. You can't visit the old country, even if the situation changes three years from now.
Good luck.
