Asylum at Chicago Circuit ride local office

gctz, i did see the two articles before. I also got free advise from some attorneys but didnt want to maintain any as they were charging 5k+.
My AO seemed careless for he didnt even study my COP conditions. He admitted to me that my case is among the unique ones. One thing that surprised me, he did ask if my wife has ever been threatened with FGM to which I answered no. He sounded friendly only that a fear he wasnt committed to his work.
Am now just waiting for my fate. Some people get their decisions in 2 weeks. I dont know why they should delay it for months

aliwa, a lazy AO might be better than the diligent type who would dig for reasons to decline your asylum request. But then a lazy AO might not care enough to find a reason to approve your case.

My AO was very serious and he had done his homework. He seemed fair and encouraging, so I left the interview feeling good about my chances. He gave me a notice saying they would send me their decision in 2-4 weeks, but in reality I didn't get their response(NOID) until 7 weeks later. Better luck to you.

My AO almost forgot to tell me when to expect results. in the end he told me it could take a couple of months depending on the workload but hinted that it will definately be resolved before Dec 2011 when my F1 is expected to expire. Thats 3 years.
My question is can someone else who didnt interview me decide my case.

GCTZ79, what happens when you get denied? Are you out of status then or are you allowed to enroll in colleges?

I am no expert and have no inside knowledge of how the process works, but my understanding is that the AO assigned to your case does the research, interviews you, writes a report on your case, and makes a decision. The asylum office director (Kenneth Madsen @ Chicago) has some oversight over the whole process, so I assume he has to approve the decision by the AO.

Since my application was received and my denial ISSUED(11/07) while I was still in status, the asylum office took no steps after their denial. They just let me stay until my status expired and a few months later they sent me Notice to Appear (NTA) which is basically a removal proceeding. I intend to seek relief from removal by applying for asylum in front of an immigration judge.

I was out of status when I RECEIVED(02/08) the final denial. At that point, I was eligible to apply to schools and be re-instated to F-1 status within 180 days from the date my status expired. I could also have sought labor certification or a job with an H1B exempt employer. I decided to forgo those options to fight out my asylum case.
